Meet Our 9th and 10th Backers!

Yesterday, we had some more lovely energy on our page - the campaign for The Butterfly Chasers. These 3 latest backers are all in some way connected to the film industry. Here is a little about them:

Alan Majerol: NY-based Writer/Director.

Here's a link to Alan's work.

John Greer: LA-based Actor/Producer

John has done indie film work in Nashville, where he has roots. During that time, he appears in Princeton Holt's last film 10 Commandments of Chloe (finishing post-production), and Holt's follow up short Delivery, where he plays the lead role. John is now based in LA where he has been working on more independent films. John's pledge matched our highest pledge to date.

You can follow John on Twitter.

Rene Leonard: Director of PFI All-Sports

Rene heads up a NY-based media company that showcases the talents of high school athletes using video productions. He has worked as a director of photography and co-producer. He and our partner Brian Ackley have formed the foundations of the company together early on.

Visit Rene's website.

We want to thank these wonderful people for their support and belief in our project!

Exibition at Nucleus Gallery

I'm exhibiting A handful of oil paintings and watercolors at the Nucleus Gallery in Alhambra California.

The show starts this Saturday night at 7:00 pm.

Here's an old one that will be in the show that I meant to just touch up a bit but ended up painting over almost the entire thing. It was originally from "KULL, EXILE OF ATLANTIS" that I illustrated a few years back. It was a depiction of a slave girl that Kull stumbles upon in the woods.

João Ruas at Thinkspace Gallery

This Saturday, November 5th at Thinkspace GalleryJoão Ruas 'YORE'

Many of you may know João Ruas' paintings from his work on the comic 'Fables'. Following in the footsteps of James Jean is no easy task, but João has done incredible well at both maintaining the look of the series, while still showcasing his personal voice. For the past year, João has been hard at work on his upcoming exhibition, 'YORE'. This exhibit will mark the major solo showcase for the artist.

'YORE' features 20 new paintings, 5 new etchings, 3 stunning works on ostrich eggs a beautiful mural and more to be revealed at the opening. Thinkspace Gallery will also be publishing a limited edition catalog for the show as well as a limited edition giclee print. Details on both will be announced later this week. They will also have some copies on hand of João's limited edition 'Minion' book that was released in limited quantities at this past July's San Diego ComiCon.

The Artist's statement on 'YORE':

Selfishness, complexes, everyday issues and anxiety are not exclusive of our times. It seems obvious but our unconscious arrogant adolescent attitude towards the people that walked on the same grounds we live on, tries to prove the contrary.

Yore is an ode to echoes, to beliefs and lost truths waiting to be discovered.

Meet Our New Backers!

We had a great day today in our campaign for Princeton Holt's 3rd feature film The Butterfly Chasers. We had 3 backers in one day - sometimes it happens that way in the crazy world of crowd-funding!

We have to first back up and show some MAJOR love to our fantastic 4th backer Cliff Moskowitz, our largest backer to date! Cliff lives in NYC and is a principle at Tailwind Capital.

Cliff has been with Tailwind since 2007. A former consultant at Bain & Company and private equity professional at Saunders Karp & Megrue, Cliff began his private equity career at The Beacon Group. He is a graduate of Princeton University, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Today, our 1st backer was accomplished music producer Cy Melchor from Los Angeles. Also a composer for film and TV, he has won both a CLIO and AICP for his composing work on Coca-Cola's "Parade" commercial. His production includes work with acts like Massive Attack, Blood of Abraham and Bel Biv Devoe. He recently finished production on Naama Kates' debut record "The Unexamined Life" which is receiving good reviews. We are also really lucky to be having Melchor composing the score for Mr. Holt's 2nd feature, The 10 Commandments of Chloe. Check out Cy's cool website including his full discography HERE.

Our 2nd backer today was Roxanne Julien, a Trinidad native now working at the New York Stock Exchange in NYC. Roxanne pledged our 2nd highest amount so far, and we thank her for her generosity and belief in our project!

Our 3rd backer today was actress Eleanor Wilson from Australia. Eleanor is now working in NYC and loving it! Wilson can be seen playing a rebellious pastor’s daughter in The Sleeping Bear, a troubled mental medium in Episode 50 and a prissy but well-meaning girlfriend in The Confabulators.

The Butterfly Chasers lead actress Meissa Hampton calls Eleanor, "a beautiful actress and individual. Talented and dedicated to her craft and her character creation. She clearly approaches her work humbly and honestly. I'm lucky to have worked with her and honored to know her."

Here is a really cool interview with Eleanor here, and make sure to hire her by visiting her website to see some clips of her doing really great work!

Thank you to these highly accomplished, wonderful and generous backers. And to our future backers, we love you in advance!

Become a member of the family by making PLEDGE, or help us by spreading the word to your friends!

Two Studies

Gregory Manchess

These figures were created just for me. Part of a series of figures on white surfaces that I've been meaning to paint for a long time.

Figure One was included in Rick Berry's group show in October, in Boston. I was happy to be a part of such a great bunch of painters. It's inspired me to continue the series.

Illustrators 54... Last Chance!

Today is the deadline for those interested in submitting to the Society of Illustrators: Illustration Annual #54.

Call for entries poster, by Tomer Hanuka

In addition to Spectrum, the Society's annual is one of the best juried annuals for illustrators looking for good exposure... even more so for those whose work does not fall into the SFF category.

Unlike some source books, you can not simply buy a page in this annual. The competition is juried, which results in a very high standard of art. This makes the annual a very viable tool for Art Directors to recruit from.

The deadline was technically last week, but the Society decided to extended it by a few days.  So this is it... your last chance! Submissions are now digital, and the whole process takes just a few minutes.

To submit entries visit the competition website.

For questions about submitting your work please email: exhibitions@societyillustrators.org

Free Screening of Brian Ackley's "Hostage Person"

Catch a free screening today of Brian Ackley's crime short "Hostage Person" on LiveStream.com. We are thankful to our distributor who is allowing us to screen this film free, despite the fact that the short is currently included in the special features of Uptown's national retail DVD release. The free screening is in promotion of our ongoing kickstarter campaign for Princeton Holt's next feature film The Butterfly Chasers.

"Hostage Person" follows the comedic and sometimes suspenseful journey of an inept criminal who ends up with the responsibility of managing a hostage that results from a deal he set up. Ackley himself plays the criminal. The film was photographed by DP Roy Nowlin Jr.

There are 3 free screenings this evening at 7:30pm, 830pm, and 930pm.

Catch the first screening at 730pm, the 2nd screening at 830pm will feature live commentary with director Brian Ackley, and the 3rd screening at 930pm will feature live commentary from director Brian Ackley and Cookies & Cream, Uptown, and The Butterfly Chasers producer Princeton Holt.
