Queen of Soca is a fictional drama about a teenage ghetto girl from the slums using her choir singing talent to get her out of the impoverished life and community despite her mother’s determination to stop her from getting involved in Soca music. Queen of Soca is the first dramatic non-fiction story ever told about the Soca business and is one hundred percent filmed on the island of Trinidad & Tobago.

"I am writing to you now to invite you to help “Queen of Soca” financially reach its goals. Your support will benefit not just an excellent movie about Soca, but propel Soca forward to a larger and more international demographic. It will also help to emerge and establish new upcoming creative artists out of Trinidad & Tobago and create media that will forever change the world which will generate future revenue and employment.
This is a very ambitious project on a very low budget. Our main goal is to develop the local film industry by creating jobs, and enhancing the existing skill set of local technical professionals. We also aim to engage and harness the business sector of T&T by bringing Caribbean stories to the forefront. We strongly believe that if we don’t begin to create the necessary film & TV productions based on our own culture, it is hardly likely that we will be able to influence the world with our arts and culture.
Our film incorporates two initiatives, youth and education as well as arts and culture and is currently employing/training youths as interns and production assistants in the departments of sound, lighting, directing, cinematography, art direction and script development through the Trinidad & Tobago Film Company who are the main funders of our film.
We are in need of $10,000 USD for production. This includes equipment rental such as lights, the red camera, sound, grip equipment, fees to the crew of 10 people for 30 days, catering, and transportation.
