Tom Reviews "Aaah! Zombies!"

Tom's Corner:

Aaah! Zombies! AKA Wasting Away
(2007 Matthew Kohnen)

Yeah, zombies are the newest trend in filmmaking. Level 33 Entertainment has unleashed 'Aaah! Zombies!' AKA 'Wasting Away' on the public.

The film follows four friends, Mike (Matthew Davis), Vanessa (Julianna Robinson), Tim (Michael Grant Terry), and Cindy (Betsy Beutler). They are hanging out at a bowling alley, when Mike gets the bright idea to mix beer and soft serve ice-cream. Unbeknownst to him, but knownst to us, the soft serve mix has been tainted with a secret government compound that rolled off a truck. The four turn into zombies, but THEY can't tell anything is wrong with them. Nick Steele (Colby French), an army private with delusions of grandeur, thinks they are super soldiers. Eventually, they find out the truth...but will they be able to escape from humans who want them dead?

There is wonderful use of black and white vs. color to delineate what's going on in each scene, and it was great. I enjoyed it, though it appears to be a sort of flipside to Zombies Anonymous, another film I wrote about. Worth watching, but a little predictable at times.
