My friend (and great source of inside info) Paul Osborne won the audience award for Best Documentary Feature at the Idaho International Film Festival! His film Official Rejection, was very enlightening yet hilarious. I have to see it again, and will buy it when it comes out on DVD.
The film dispels plenty of idealogies, as well as misconceptions about film festivals - including the fact that if you are seeking distribution, they are pretty much unavoidable. Also, the major thing I got confirmation on, was the revelation that the minute your film plays online, whether via an online film festival or through your own website, youtube, whatever, you're pretty much dead in the water distribution-wise. Distributors don't pick up films that played previously online, unless that distributor releases it online themselves. Thanks to Paul and the guys from Official Rejection for all this info as well as a great time at the IIFF.
Other winners from the IIFF include The Photograph (best narrative feature - which I'm pissed that I didnt get a chance to see), and a few more. Go HERE for the full awards list.
The Idaho International Film Festival experience was easily the best festival experience Ive ever had in my life. Stay tuned here for more about that fest from the organizers themselves.
Check out the official website for DVD info (November 17th), etc. HERE.
